Welcome to the Veteran Services Office.  Our office is grateful to you for your service to our country and provides the services you need to successfully complete your educational goals at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

The University currently offers over 60-degree plans and options that are approved for VA education benefits. Our School Certifying Official can assist you with general program information and eligibility information and serves as a liaison between veteran students/dependents and the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA).

After you have applied:

Your application for the GI Bill® may take thirty days or more for the VA to process. Once your application has been accepted, the VA will send you a Certificate of Eligibility (COE).  The (COE) will include the type of Education Benefit you are receiving and how many months you are eligible to receive the benefit.

GI Bill® Benefit Information Open Close

Montgomery GI Bill® – Chapter 30

  • If you have at least two years of active duty you may be eligible for the Montgomery GI Bill benefits.
  • Montgomery GI Bill students are required to verify attendance each month through W.A.V.E. portal or by calling 1(877-VA-ECERT).

Post 9/11 GI Bill® – Chapter 33

  • If you have served on active duty after September 10, 2001, you may be eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill® benefits.
  • Post 9/11 GI Bill® students who receive the Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) and/or kicker payments are required to verify enrollment at the end of each month.

Survivors and Dependents Assistance Program – Chapter 35 

If you’re a child or spouse of a Veteran or service member you may be eligible to receive DEA benefits for school or job training.

Select Reserves – Chapter 1606            

If you are a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard, or Air National Guard, you may be eligible for this benefit.

Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve students are required to verify attendance each month through the W.A.V.E portal or by calling 1(877-VA-ECERT).

Veteran Readiness and Employment – Chapter 31

If you have a service-connected disability that limits your ability to work or prevents you from working, you may be eligible for VR&E benefits.

Did you receive Financial Aid at another school?  You can transfer your FAFSA to SE!
Student aid does not automatically transfer from school to school.  Transferring your FAFSA to SE is simple.  Login into your account at FAFSA.gov, and select the option to “Make FAFSA Corrections”, select school codes, select Southeastern’s code (003179), click submit.

The School Certifying Official (SCO) is required to retain copies of the following documents for VA compliance and certification. Open Close
  • copy of your Acceptance Letter from the Admissions Office
  • copy of your degree plan
  • copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
  • copy of your DD-214, if you are a discharged veteran or a NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility), if you are active duty

How do I submit my documents to the School Certifying Official (SCO)? Open Close

The required documents may be emailed to the Veteran’s Services Office at veterans@se.edu or mailed to 425 W. University Blvd., Durant, OK, 74701.

How does my JST credits transfer to SE? Open Close

Credit may be granted for basic training, formal service school training and courses.  The credit is granted in accordance with the recommendations of the Commission on Accreditation of Service Experiences, an agency of the American Council of Education (ACE). SE offers additional opportunities to help finance your degree.

Financial aid is administered by the federal government. By applying you may qualify for federal, state, and or institutional loans and scholarships in addition to your GI Bill® benefits.

We encourage you to apply early since there may be deadlines for submitting your application and granting awards.

Military Tuition Assistance (TA)

Tuition Assistance programs may be available through the various branches of the military.  Service members should contact the Education Service Officer (ESO) of their unit for approval before enrolling.

Licensing and Certification Reimbursement

 

Licensing and Certification Test Reimbursement Open Close

VA can reimburse the cost of approved licensing and certification tests. Students are reimbursed the cost of the test, not to exceed the approved cost of the test or $2,000. Benefits can be paid for the tests that are not passed, for tests retaken if not passed, and for tests required to be recertified or to renew a license.

Students must be eligible for benefits to receive test reimbursement. They must have remaining entitlement and their delimiting date must not have passed. Information about test fee reimbursement can found at:
